Illinois Saves Overdose: Naloxone Distribution and Administration

Welcome to Illinois Saves Overdose, The State of Illinois Department of Human Services Division of Substance Use Prevention and Recovery’s (IDHS SUPR) Drug Overdose Prevention Program (DOPP) website. Here you’ll find information about becoming a DOPP, naloxone training and resources, and you will be able to enter information about administering naloxone to reverse opiod overdoses.

Since its approval by the FDA in 1971, naloxone has been a safe and effective tool in the arsenal of emergency responders and bystanders, saving hundreds of thousands of lives from opioid overdoses.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), American Society of Addiction Medicine, and the State of Illinois have joined the Center for Disease Control in supporting widespread access to naloxone. Naloxone has been a crucial strategy in reducing overdose deaths in Illinois.

Thank you for teaming with IDHS SUPR to combat opioid overdoses, and for saving valued lives by being trained in naloxone administration.

Illinois Saves OD is funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration through the Opioid State Targeted Response grant administered by the Illinois Department of Human Services, Division of Substance Use Prevention and Recovery. (TI-080231).
